UT Elementary School is looking for an AmeriCorps VISTA!
The University of Texas Elementary School is recruiting for a passionate, hard-working, service-oriented person to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) for the 2012-13 academic year. The VISTA will work within UT Elementary School to help build the capacity of the organization's efforts to alleviate poverty in their community through education. This is a full-time position with weekly professional development opportunities that will serve to increase the level of academic preparation and other services for underserved populations in Texas via The University of Texas Elementary School.
April Partner Spotlight: Austin Bat Cave
Ms. Miles’ second-grade class created monsters. First they folded their papers hot-dog style, and then they created, drew, and colored their creatures on one side of the page. On the other side, they named their monsters and then wrote acrostic poems to describe them. Each line of the poem starts with one of the letters of the name of their monster. UT Elementary’s second graders engage in such imaginative activities thanks to the school’s partnership with Austin Bat Cave, a nonprofit writing and tutoring center for kids.
April Volunteer Spotlight: Andria Brannon
Since childhood, Andria Brannon has loved to read. Now, she is sharing her love of reading twice a month as she reads books to Ms. Kelly’s first grade class.
5th Grade Raises Money for H2O for Life

Our 5th grade class participated in Walk for Water in an annual fundraiser to support H20 for Life. Check out some stories!
April Donor Spotlights: Liesl Geiger and Atticus Adair
Every day, the Lil’ Longhorns and teachers at UT Elementary see and hear construction crews building their new, permanent facilities next door. As the school currently operates in portable buildings, two young Lil’ Longhorns have contributed to the school’s vision of its permanent home.
