Parent Services

Our school social worker serves as the link and liaison between schools, families, neighborhoods and the larger community to which we each belong. She currently partners with our kindergarten teacher Eunice Tanco to hold parent training sessions. In the 2008-09 academic year, these training sessions include such topics as “How to Communicate with Your Child” and “How to Do Homework With Your Child.” The school social worker also ensures that students’ families with additional personal needs, educational, occupational, or basic needs, are connected with community partners who provide those services.

If a family is in need of counseling, our school psychologist and school social worker can assist with family intervention programs.

Also, in coordination with the school’s Healthy Families Initiative, the Healthy Living Happy Living Program, a multidisciplinary obesity intervention, is available to our students after school.

Laptop Loaner Program

At UT Elementary, we seek to bridge the “digital divide” that too often segregates our society and limits opportunity for people without effective access to the digital tools of the 21st century.

As part of the Dell Foundation’s Connected Communities grant, UT Elementary School provides laptops to our students’ families at no cost, for a period of two weeks. With access to these laptops, family members can seek out information, access community resources, find job opportunities or education options, and learn about local events.

Currently we have a total of twenty laptops available for the program. Our school social worker, Kerri Fisher, manages this program and the waiting list for these computers. If you are a UT Elementary parent and you would like to request your name be added to the list, you may contact Kerri Fisher.

The local nonprofit Austin Free Net and the Austin Public Library hold regular classes on technology literacy training at no cost. For information on integrating and using technology in your home, see the Kid Smart Guide to Early Learning and Technology.
