Week of the Young Child 2009

The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world's largest early childhood education association. The purpose of the Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.
At UT Elementary, we celebrated the Week of the Young Child with activities throughout the week. Our parents sent in letters about how unique their child is, which our teachers read to the classes. Our students also created cards and posters about how great it is to be a kid for children at the Dell Children’s Hospital.

On Monday, each child in pre-kindergarten through second grade contributed to the banner which was hung on the front of the school. Wednesday we had CRAZY Hat Day. Teachers and students alike got in touch with their silly side and wore outrages hats to school. Some of the best hats were the homemade hats!

The Week of the Young Child culminated at UT Elementary with our Wind Festival. Each class walked to Pan Am to play with the wind catchers they created, fly kites, blow bubbles, throw frisbees and really celebrate how fun it is to be a kid! Kindergarten teacher Ellen Mangelsdorf said: “With smiles on everyone’s face it could be called nothing less than a huge success. Thanks to all those parents and teachers who helped throughout the week and a special thanks to everyone who celebrates young children!”
