The University of Texas Elementary School Management Board
The Management Board is comprised of UT faculty and staff, parents and community members and meets monthly throughout the academic year. Currently the Management Board is chaired by the Vice President for Diversity and Community Engagement at The University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Gregory J. Vincent. Dr. Vincent works in collaboration with Dr. Steven Leslie, executive vice president and provost, and Dr. Ramona Trevino, founding principal and CEO of UT Elementary, in regards to initiatives related to the school.
Open Management Board meetings are held at the school during the academic year on each of the last Mondays of each month.
Chair of the Board's Letter
As a school focused on offering innovative and exceptional educational opportunities for the children of East Austin, the University of Texas Elementary School builds a bridge between scientifically-based research and effective classroom practice. UT Elementary School prepares students for each successive step of their academic careers. It is our mission to educate the whole child, providing each of our students with the tools necessary to be successful in and out of the classroom, including cultural awareness, character education, and technology. Additionally, with our curriculum and our commitment to actively engage our students across their multiple intelligences, we are able to address clearly and directly the particular characteristics and learning needs that our students exhibit.
Our highly qualified and outstanding administration and faculty have carefully crafted a rich and varied curriculum aimed at helping students acquire knowledge and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Teachers make sure that students go well beyond simply learning the facts. Little Longhorns read, write, and think critically across the arts and sciences at all grade levels. Additionally, the school serves as a demonstration campus, facilitating learning opportunities for future teachers as well as Little Longhorns. Whether in or out of the classroom, activities at UT Elementary School aim at motivating students to realize their potential.
To complement this academic experience, UT Elementary School believes in the importance of promoting effective character education opportunities that offer active experiences for students, administrators, teachers, and staff to engage in both the school and the surrounding community. As an active participant within the local community, the school provides ways for parents, families, and community representatives to become involved in an array of opportunities that fully utilize the rich culture of the East Austin community and in turn, enhance both the school and the community.
I am honored to lead the management board of this remarkable school. UT Elementary School is the first university-school-community partnership of its kind in the state and has been rated as an exemplary school by the Texas Education Agency, the only school in East Austin that holds this distinction. I am proud of the remarkable impact that UT Elementary School has made thus far, most especially in a neighborhood whose demographics represent a population with traditionally limited access to an exemplary education. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues to further enhance the quality of education available in this community.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gregory J. Vincent
